April is National Poetry Month! And to celebrate, I’ll be releasing some Matthew Van Der Boot inspired poetry. Here’s one to get things started.
Brown Eyed Girl (not that one by Van Morrison)
She’s cute enough,
with light hazel eyes and pale-blonde hair,
but you have your type and it’s just not her.
Yours is Speed Racer’s girlfriend Trixie,
race car driver, helicopter pilot,
miracle mechanic.
Agent 99 from Get Smart with
her mod haircut and little red pistol,
always saving Max’s ass.
Batgirl in her spike-heeled
purple boots and signature
high kicks to the jaw — KAPOW!
The girl playing Juliet in the film
your teacher showed in English last year
who made your chest feel tight
every time she appeared on the screen.
Hit Me with Your Best Shot Pat Benatar,
the Go-Go’s guitarist Jane Wiedlin,
Bow Wow Wow’s I Want Candy Annabella Lwin,
and the girl from Flashdance,
even though that movie was stupid.
